Staged in Dallas, Texas on Thursday 11th February; Biba accompanied by Killerspin’s owner, Robert Blackwell jnr, was one of the special guests invited to take part in the Eight-Ball Challenge, part of the NBA All Star Weekend.
Hosted by Alonzo Mourning, a now retired NBA player and Magic Johnson, Biba walked the red carpet to take part in the specially arranged Billiards Challenge.
Killerspin’s table tennis star was one of a host of celebrities present at what was a very informal occasion.
Casual
“Although the event was exclusive and by invitation only, the dress code was casual and everybody walked around as though being at a house party”, reflected Biba. “The guests filed out the main room very quickly to a room with an open bar, to watch their favorite celebrities play eight-ball.”
Master of the Ceremonies was Dwyane Wade, with Mark Cuban being the Honorary Chair.
“Mark Cuban is the owner of the Dallas Mavericks”, explained Biba. “Robert introduced me to him later in the evening.”
A meeting to remember and there was another never to be forgotten experience in store.
Class Player
“As soon as I checked into the event I was welcomed and asked if I was ready to play”, said Biba. “Although I knew I was not a good player, I believed I could put on a good show; I had some experience, I had played in Serbia against my brother-in-law.”
Ready, Biba was assigned a partner and waited with anticipation to hear the name of the adversary.
“After mingling for an hour and occasionally sipping on a light cocktail, I have heard my name called”, continued Biba. “I had no idea who would be my opponent.”
She was in for a surprise.
Superstar Opponent
“I was amazed; my opponent was Paul Pierce of the Celtics!” reflected Biba. “At first I was intimidated playing against such a well known Basketball star; I thought I would be totally embarrassed!”
One surprise after another and then one more; Paul Pierce was much better at Basketball than Billiards!
Biba had an opponent of equal stature.
“A close game; sadly we lost but it was fun”, concluded Biba. “However, losing was just part of the enjoyment; more importantly Robert and myself met new people and we were able to promote the Killerspin brand in the company of superstar athletes.”
In defeat there was victory.
