Killerspin’s Chen Qi faces a stern challenge in city of Haerbin, Heilongjiang Province on Wednesday 10th March 2010 when play commences in the Second Selection Tournament for the team to represent China at the Liebherr World Team Championships to be held in Russia’s capital city, Moscow, from Sunday 23rd to Sunday 30th May 2010.

However, if there is any player in the world with the talent to meet that challenge it is Chen Qi; he is without doubt one of the most gifted players on planet earth.

Simple Formula

In a tournament to which eight players have been invited the system of play and the system of selection is very simple.

The system of play is based on the knock-out principle and the winner joins Xu Xin in the team to travel to Moscow in May; Xu Xin won the first Selection Tournament held in January.

The Draw

Chen Qi is drawn in the top half of the draw and in the opening round meets Ma Lin, the man with whom he won Men’s Doubles gold at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and at the 2007 Liebherr World Championships in Zagreb.

The winner of the contest meets the victor of the duel between Ma Long and Hao Shuai.

Meanwhile, in the lower half of the draw Wang Liqin faces Zhang Jike and Wang Hao confronts Lei Zhenhua.

The tournament concludes on Friday 12th March 2010.
